Direct Instruction: A False Assumption

The assumption that all students can learn with well designed instruction when a student does not learn it does not mean that something is wrong with the students but instead that something is wrong with the instruction thus the theory underlying direct instruction lies in opposition to develop mental approaches constructivism and theories of learning styles which assume that students ability to learn depends on their developmental stage their ability to construct or derive understandings and their own unique approach to learning.
