Value Perception Discrepancy

People tend to perceive the value of savings differently based on the total amount spent. While some may not find it worth to spend time for a $5 saving on a $500 purchase, they would gladly do so for a $5 saving on a $20 purchase, influenced by the percentage saved. This perception is irrational because the absolute saving remains the same. Interestingly, studies reveal that well-off populations exhibit this behavior, unlike the poor who value every dollar equally. Poverty, taxing the mind, forces the poor to focus on the value of each dollar, leading to a better understanding of the real value of money and demonstrating expertise in financial decisions.
