Factors Influencing Happiness Decline
Happiness in the United States has experienced both a secular decline over the past 30 years and three major crises that further pushed it down. The factors contributing to this decline include a reduced sense of faith or philosophy of life, weaker relationships with family and friends, and a deteriorating relationship with work characterized by a lack of earning success and serving others. Additionally, the introduction of social media in 2008-2009 had a significant negative impact on happiness, particularly among young adults, contrary to the initial perception that the financial crisis was the cause.
