NOTE

Short Gaps Yield Better Outcomes

Patients with a defibrillation shock interval of less than 75 milliseconds exhibited significantly improved rates of ventricular fibrillation (VF) termination and return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) compared to those with intervals greater than 75 milliseconds. Specifically, 24% of patients with short intervals achieved ROSC versus only 10.4% with longer intervals. Despite these findings, the study's small sample sizes require caution, as the differences did not extend to survival rates or neurological outcomes post-discharge. The key takeaway is that in instances of refractory VF, a shorter defibrillation shock gap is correlated with better immediate resuscitation results.
