OpenAI announced the Assistant's API and custom GPTs as first steps towards an AI agent future. The Assistant's API is now available to everyone, flipping the AI landscape. It allows building agent interfaces with core primitives like threading, retrieval, code interpreter, and function calling. Conrad Nat explains that it enables stateful threads and messages, improved function calling for AI actions on the front end, guaranteed JSON output, retrieval of related documentation, and code generation.
Yesterday OpenAI announces 128k GPT-4 Turbo at 1/3rd the price; a new Text-to-Speech model; Whisper 3; and proto-agent features like the Assistants API and Custom GPTs.
