Research suggests that a hybrid approach is most effective for teaching math, with a combination of blocked practice and interleaved practice. Starting with a scaffolded approach, students first master fractions with the same denominator, then move on to fractions with a multiple denominator. Interleaving different types of problems challenges students to think critically and apply their knowledge. Providing a baseline of information is important before moving to higher-level skills.
