In 2013, ESPN was the most valuable channel on cable TV and a jewel in the world of sports media. While visiting ESPN headquarters, I met Artie Boulgren, the director of research, who showed me the most important fact about ESPN - that men have named it their favorite channel for 14 straight years. Unlike other networks, ESPN didn't need to create hits or have destination programming because it was a destination network itself.
