Workshop on Immortality and the Meaning of Life
A workshop on immortality at the Santa Fe Institute sparked an interesting debate on whether people would want to live for more than 10,000 years. Surprisingly, most attendees said no, except for the narrator who believes they could keep themselves entertained for that long. The narrator argues that people don't fully appreciate the value of the finite time we have on Earth and the experiences we can have during that time. They believe that our time on Earth is what truly matters and that living indefinitely would cheapen that experience. However, the narrator humorously adds that they would consider living for 10,000 years if they were guaranteed perfect health and no back pain.
