Lessons in Innovation and Thinking from First Principles
The lesson here is that ideas that seem obvious now were initially dismissed. To think differently and come up with innovative ideas, one must think from first principles. The speaker's experience of launching their idea and realizing its potential led them to seek out the best engineer they knew, who happened to be Nate, a computer science major from Harvard. Together, they came up with the idea of building a website to book someone's home, similar to booking a hotel. They faced challenges with the payment system and this experience led them to Y Combinator, where they found support for their venture. Ultimately, their journey started with thinking differently and believing in their idea.
