Efforts to Streamline Regional Energy Networks

FERC is emphasizing the need for regional energy networks to be planned out on a 20-year basis, have a default method for cost allocation, and for states to agree on the process for cost allocation. FERC granted itself the authority to permit national interest transmission corridors for national security reasons. Democratic FERC commissioners believe that when states handle energy issues independently, it can increase costs for everyone in the state, stressing the importance of regional cooperation to lower costs for all.
