The feeling of continuity is extremely important in psychiatric conditions, as there is always a continuity of feeling of existence. However, feeling alone is not sufficient for consciousness; there needs to be a coordinated operation of being, feeling, and knowing. In certain schizophrenic patients, the knowing part may be absent, leading to a potential lack of consciousness despite the presence of feeling.
