NOTE

Storage Hierarchy and Energy Consumption

High-performance, high-availability storage typically utilizes solid-state disks with low energy consumption during manufacturing and usage, resulting in a lower carbon footprint over its lifetime. In contrast, spinning disks have a higher energy consumption due to the constant spinning motor even when not in use. Archiving to tape is advantageous as it consumes no energy, making it extremely low carbon. Additionally, compressing data efficiently is another technique to optimize storage.
