Theories of Everything with Curt Jaimungal

NOTE

String Theory: A Framework Without a Finish Line

String theory proposes that particles are oscillating strings, leading to an infinite series of particles with increasing masses. However, despite its potential, we do not observe this infinite diversity in the physical world, as the predicted 'tower of states' does not manifest. The complexity of string theory increases with deeper exploration, and while it has been suggested that the right mathematical constructs, such as compact Kalabi-Yau manifolds, could yield the standard model of particle physics, this has not materialized in 40 years. Ultimately, string theory is an elaborate framework capable of constructing a variety of theories but falls short of providing a universal theory of everything.
