Incentivizing bad news over good news in your company

In a company, it's important to incentivize people to share bad news as well as good news. Many people punish those who bring bad news, but it's essential to fight that tendency. This is known as Persian messenger syndrome: in the past, messengers delivering bad news were killed, so it's no wonder they would hide instead. It's puzzling how this practice even came about, but it may have contributed to the downfall of the empire. It's important to avoid becoming a 'Mad King' and encourage open communication.
