Following the assassination of Russia's Tsar in 1881, violent anti-Jewish riots known as pogroms erupted in the Russian Empire. These pogroms, fueled by rumors blaming Jews for the assassination, resulted in widespread destruction of property, physical violence, and loss of life. The fear and violence caused by the pogroms led to a significant wave of Jewish migration out of the Russian Empire, lasting for decades.
