The Impact of Online Communication on Mental Health and Loneliness

Communication online can be hurtful without the barriers that make us think before we speak. Social media can damage self-esteem by constant comparison. Young people feel worse about themselves and their friendships, but can't quit because social media platforms are designed to keep them hooked. This has led to a lack of understanding and wisdom in human relationships. It's heartbreaking to hear people of all ages whisper about their struggles with isolation and feeling like they don't belong, even when they seem fine online. Loneliness can masquerade as withdrawal, sadness, anger, or aloofness. We need to ask how people are doing and reflect on their lives to realize that a majority of people in our country are struggling with loneliness.
