Social Conditioning and Conformity
The experiment with monkeys and a banana and water spout shows how social conditioning and conformity shape behavior. Initially, monkeys learn not to climb for the banana to avoid getting sprayed with water. Even with new monkeys who have never been sprayed, they still follow the behavior of not climbing, as they learn from others that climbing results in being attacked. This demonstrates how individuals conform to social norms and behaviors without fully understanding the reasons behind them.
