Acetaminophen Levels in Self-Harming Patients
Activated charcoal should be used early on in the emergency department for patients who have likely been exposed to acetaminophen. This is especially important for pediatric patients who may have accidentally ingested the substance. It is important to test acetaminophen levels at the four hour mark when concentrations start to redistribute.
