Assess Without the Stress: Engagement, Agency, and Inclusion in Higher Ed with Caleb Curfman
How to Change the Energy of Your Lecture
Shift your mindset from 'What am I going to lecture about?' to 'What are my students going to do today?' This change focuses on student engagement and activities rather than the lecturer. By incorporating interactive elements like asking students to write, diagram, fill in worksheets, or discuss with peers during a lecture, you can instantly alter the energy in the classroom. Introducing unexpected elements like blank slides, fill-in-the-blank slides, or imagery can further enhance engagement and shift the pace of information delivery. Initiating the lecture with a question instead of stating learning outcomes can also increase intensity and capture students' attention from the beginning, fostering a more dynamic learning environment.
