ADVICE

Managing Anger in Parenting

1️⃣ ☮️ Suppressing vs. Preventing Anger: Once anger arises, it's difficult to suppress. Focus on preventing it in the first place.

  • It's counterproductive to yell at a child to calm down when you're angry yourself.
  • Children, especially young ones, mirror their parents' emotions. If you're calm, they'll likely calm down too.

2️⃣ ❤️ Empathy and Love as Antidotes: Parents with less anger towards children tend to view them with more empathy, understanding their irrationality due to their age.

  • Avoid attributing manipulative intent to young children's actions (e.g., "pushing buttons").
  • Recognize that challenging behaviors in toddlers are often temporary phases they'll grow out of.

3️⃣ 🗣️ Calm Communication: Lower your voice and energy to help soothe your child. Your demeanor influences their behavior.

4️⃣ 🤔 Shifting Perspectives: Reframe how you perceive your child's actions. See them as learning and exploring rather than trying to provoke.
