During World War I, social stratification barriers just kind of tumbled as everybody was in the pits together. There's some interesting relational dynamics there that I wonder if if Tolkien was like oh look all of these people could come together except for women or we don't allow any more than one woman per story or two women to match. Two but they can't talk to each other. You know so we can bring a bunch of slightly different people together. It's not absolute smoke shows. Yeah just like stunning. Great time.
Welcome back to the Tolkien-verse! We are diving back into the Lord of the Rings trilogy with The Two Towers. We are joined by Justine Mastin, therapist and author of Starship Therapise and The Grieving Therapist. We touch upon a variety of themes: grief and loss, ecological grief, individuation, Jung. We also discuss Internal Family Systems and how that is demonstrated via Gollum/Smeagol.
