Eye On A.I.

NOTE

Science vs Engineering: Understanding vs Building

The difference between science and engineering can be seen in the analogy of studying insects versus building an automobile that navigates. Science seeks to understand something, while engineering aims to build something that works for a specific purpose. Artificial intelligence can fall into either category. Large language models, although useful, are designed for engineering purposes and cannot contribute to scientific understanding. Therefore, they may be helpful but do not explain complex processes like language or cognition. This distinction between science and engineering is not a criticism, but rather a recognition of their different goals.
