NOTE

Power and Socialization in Shaping Behavior

Power dynamics exist in various relationships like with government, therapist, boss, doctor, teachers, parents, friends, family, co-workers, and strangers in public. These influences are so ingrained that often go unnoticed. People are subtly shaped into a norm by these power systems, like soldiers in boot camp or prisoners in a cell where surveillance and judgment by peers can be more effective than external control. The concept of a panopticon illustrates how socialization and self-regulation within a group can outweigh the need for external supervision.
