Sports drinks were originally developed to replenish electrolytes and provide glucose fuel for exercising individuals. The optimal glucose content in sports drinks is around 5-6%. Some drinks contain excessive fructose, which may taste better but is not ideal for exercise. Drinking sports drinks in moderation during physical activity is beneficial, but consuming excessive amounts while sedentary is not recommended.
