E7: The Case For All the Other Energy Sources

"Age of Miracles"

NOTE

Driving Battery Costs Down Through Innovation and Efficiency Gains

Improving cathodes in batteries can significantly lower costs and enhance performance. This improvement, though harder than upgrading anodes, offers more potential for cost reduction and efficiency gains. Additionally, advancements in materials like lithium mining and transition metals, along with battery recycling, can further reduce costs in the long run. These innovations could potentially decrease battery costs to less than 1% of their current value, enabling longer battery life and a wide range of applications such as 1000-mile electric cars, electric aviation, and affordable home batteries for consumers. Decentralizing the function of the grid with batteries located at the edge, like home batteries, can provide both grid services and resilient backup during grid failures, making them more effective than grid batteries at centralized power plants.
