The relationship between the characteristics of money and users is mediated through time preference. Cavemen had high time preference, while civilization has lower time preference. Low time preference is the process of civilization. Money and civilization are inexorably bound. If money is debased, civilization fails. We'll always have some positive time preference due to mortality. Some think a sound money standard would halt the economy, but that's not the case.

Josef Tětek joins me to discuss the relationship between the Austrian School of Economics with Bitcoin, the impact of time preference, and the non-state properties of Bitcoin.
