La plasticidad tiene distintos dominios, con sus respectivos períodos sensibles.
Different domains of plasticity have their own sensitive periods. For phonological learning, the sensitive period is in the first year of life and then closes down after the age of nine or 10. The ability to acquire grammar also has a slowly decreasing curve and then collapses dramatically. Learning a second language becomes much more difficult after puberty. However, in the case of learning new words, the lexicon remains plastic and continues to be a feasible task.
