The main source of omega-6s in people's diets is vegetable oils, which are widely used in the food industry and can also be found in animal feeds. The intake of linoleic acid, a type of omega-6, has increased over the 20th century due to the introduction of vegetable oils. However, at the supermarket, people can choose vegetable oils that are lower in linoleic acid and higher in alpha linoleic acid and mono-unsaturates, such as olive oil or canola oil.
