The Magic of Mushrooms
The Infinite Monkey Cage
Remarkable cases of saccada's nourishing relationship with microbes
Saccada ants have developed a unique relationship with microbes in order to make their food more nourishing. They have domesticated a lineage of gourdisaps and have special glands in their bodies for this purpose. This partnership goes beyond mere survival and allows the ants to do things they couldn't do before. It is a type of symbiosis, similar to the extreme example of Cordyceps. Symbiosis is not always a beneficial partnership, but rather interactions between unlike organisms.
