Unemployment was not a topic of discussion before the 20th century. However, using Google book data, it can be observed that the frequency of the word 'unemployment' sharply increased in the 20th century, peaking in 1932. The concern for unemployment resurfaced in the 1970s due to inflation. Although it has become less of an issue since then, it remains more significant than in the 19th century.
