The Power of Habits in Shaping Identity

Habits are pivotal as they help in embodying a desired identity. Every action reflects the type of person one aspires to be. Completing small tasks like writing a sentence or doing one push up signifies voting for the identity one wants to adopt, be it a writer, a fitness enthusiast, or any other desired label. The ultimate goal is not just to perform occasional actions like attending a silent meditation retreat, but to become a meditator or a runner for consistency. Believing in these aspects of self integrates them into one's identity, making it effortless to adhere to corresponding behaviors. When behaviors align with one's inherent identity traits that are cherished, motivation becomes intrinsic, eliminating the need for external prompts. Consistency in habits, akin to casting repeated votes, accumulates evidence supporting the desired identity over time, gradually solidifying the narrative one believes about oneself.
