Gravity and the Curvature of Space: Understanding Black Holes

Space in three dimensions is pulled inward by gravity, creating a scrunched up area known as a black hole. To understand this, imagine a two-dimensional rubber sheet being pinched and pulled down to a point. In the three-dimensional case, space becomes incredibly curved and bent inward. Like the rubber sheet, objects can move past the black hole, but if they get too close, they are pulled in towards the deepest point and nothing can stop it.
