Negative feelings often provoke a defensive response, which can be counterproductive and exacerbate problems. In job interviews, expressing desperation does not sell; instead, researching the company and framing your interest positively yields better results. Similarly, when faced with criticism or challenging questions, responding with defensiveness only heightens conflict. Engaging in a constructive manner, prioritizing understanding over reaction, fosters healthier interactions and solutions.
The Minimalists talk about the clutter that appears every time we are unnecessarily reactive or defensive in our interactions with others.
