The New Capitalist Mode of Production
Marxism's third pillar involved French socialism's critical view of modern society and its attempt to answer the social question. Marx rejected utopian socialists' focus on reason and instead emphasized studying history, economics, and politics. Marx combined German philosophy, English economics, and French social theory to address the capitalist mode of production. The profit motive was a defining feature of this new era of economics.
