The Use of Thermal Energy Storage in Technology Development
Malta's technology was inspired by a Nobel Prize-winning professor at Stanford, Robert Laughlin. He discovered that using molten salt as thermal energy storage in a heat pump and a heat engine is highly effective. When heated above 200 degrees Celsius, salt becomes a liquid and retains heat well. This property makes it easy to work with and pump. The concept is similar to cooking a whole chicken or fish in a salt bake, as salt acts as a great insulator.
