However, the principle and practice of air mobile warfare were validated, as a million American soldiers rode to battle in Huey helicopters over the next eight years. The war cost the lives of 58,000 young Americans and resulted in a humiliating defeat. This highlighted the importance of clarity in intentions and conduct before starting a war.
