Individuals are consciousness separate from the lower nature composed of birth, death, aging, suffering, and the body's ailments. Consciousness, the higher nature (atma), is the self and God's nature, encompassing awareness mixed with thoughts, feelings, and emotions. This consciousness upholds the entire universe, enlivening the body and illuminating thoughts, emotions, and memories in the subtle body. The subtle body is also energized by prana.
