The Violence of the State
Oppressing people to make them comply with the state's wishes may seem like the only way to get them to work together, but it is morally backward. The state claims authority to use violence against citizens, but this authority is needed to force compliance, not the other way around. We rationalize the violence of the state, but ignore its founding violence and call it something else.
