Start by warming up your conversations with a framework called ACA: Acknowledge, Compliment, and Ask. Acknowledge something the person mentioned, compliment them on it, and then tie your ask to the compliment. This approach shows active listening and helps build a positive relationship with the person you're reaching out to.
