Startups are the first customers for cloud computing and eventually enterprise companies are following suit. There are three types of cloud adoption: lift and shift, building on the cloud, and instantly going global. AWS offers benefits such as trading capex for opx, lower costs, and scalability. This frees up engineers to focus on writing code while AWS handles infrastructure. This global availability provides a competitive edge over on-prem data centers.

So, how DID an online book retailer end up building the infrastructure layer that powers the entire internet? (Or at least 39% of it, per latest market share data.)
