Our identity is based on the story of our past achievements, failures, successes, and experiences. This story looks to the future for fulfillment, deriving its identity from what we have done, acquired, lost, or had done to us. Most people lack awareness of their deeper consciousness, being trapped in a delusional sense of self. Without awakening to a transcendent dimension such as presence or awareness, individuals can remain in a cycle of unhappiness, with only rare glimpses of transcendence through events like serious illness.
