The challenge faced by some leaders is appealing to a diverse group of voters within their party, balancing the preferences of right-wing reform-type voters and more centrist voters. While some suggest concealing real views and moving to the right to gain support before returning to original views when in power, others believe in the importance of connecting with the base and appealing to voters in the center ground for electoral success.
