Higher Education and Social Mobility: Findings from a Study
The study linked data from multiple sources to answer two questions: who gets into selective private colleges like the Ivy League and what are the consequences of attending. The results showed that higher income families have a higher acceptance rate compared to middle-class families with similar credentials. Attending these colleges significantly increases the chances of reaching higher positions in society. Inadvertently, these colleges may be amplifying privilege at the top.
