Actions Have Probabilities, Understand Their Value
When actions lead to uncertain consequences, it is effective to quantify each potential outcome by assigning a utility value. To determine the overall impact of an action, multiply the utility of each outcome by the probability of that outcome occurring. This calculation provides the expected value of the action, though its nomenclature can be misleading, as it does not represent the value one usually anticipates.
