**The Paradox of Christianity's Egalitarian Influence. It can destroy itself too. **
The paradox of Christianity lies in the repudiation of institutional Christianity as a fundamental expression of its distinctive character. The idea of being born again and the application of this paradigm to the whole fabric of society in the Latin West led to the ambition of cleansing the whole of Christendom. This led to the emergence of twin dimensions - the cyclium and religio - depicting the fate of fallen mankind and the bond joining them to the eternity of heaven provided by the church. The Revulsion generated by the Reformation was an abiding Christian impulse manifested in the tearing down of idolatry and superstition. The French Revolution, the Enlightenment, and the Russian Revolution reflected the same instincts, with the repudiation of the privileges and fabric of the church being driven by deeply Christian reasons. This inherent trend within Christianity moves towards atheism, as evidenced by the condemnation of the gods and the denial of divine manifest by various groups from Hebrew prophets to materialist scientists.
