The Rarity of Co-CEOs in Large Publicly Traded Companies

In a conversation with a client, I discovered that co-CEOs are quite rare. To investigate further, we analyzed 2,200 publicly traded companies from 1996 to 2020. Surprisingly, we found only 95 instances of co-CEOs. Some well-known companies with co-CEOs include Chipotle, SAP, and Research in Motion. Overall, co-CEO arrangements are uncommon.
