Decoding brain activity from fMRI scans is less dreamy than it sounds. fMRI measures blood flow and oxygen levels, but the brain doesn't fire one thought at a time. It can process multiple words or sentences in a short period, making it difficult for researchers to analyze the data. Each brain image is a jumbled combination of activity from the last ten seconds.
