When searching for information, people often make the mistake of looking for the answer instead of seeking out direct expertise with all the nuances and details. Learning involves a process called the learning loop, which starts with an experience, followed by reflection, compression or abstraction, and then action. Consuming other people's abstractions or compressions can create an illusion of knowledge, as they may miss important details. This is similar to following a recipe without fully understanding the chef's expertise, which can lead to different outcomes. To truly gain knowledge, it is important to reflect on experiences and seek direct expertise instead of relying solely on consumed knowledge.
