The Concept of Kintsugi: Finding Beauty in Imperfection
There is a concept in Japanese pottery called kintsugi, where broken pieces are glued back together with gold or silver, creating a more beautiful piece. This concept can be applied to leaders, as the moments that chip or shatter us can lead to our greatest insights and understanding. Steve Jobs believed that his firing from Apple led to its success. Kintsugi represents the idea that we should embrace our imperfections and see ourselves as prototypes, constantly evolving. Dan Gilbert noted that humans are a work in progress, often mistakenly thinking they're finished.
