Consumers use proxies to make decisions, such as choosing a restaurant or buying a book. At work, proxies like college reputation or interview skills are used to hire people. However, false proxies lead to prejudice and social stratification. Factors like wheelchair use should not affect someone's ability to be a great programmer. It's time to focus on the work itself instead of irrelevant clues.
